Counting to Ten
At the beginning of this year we were shopping after Christmas
sales and my two year old counted to ten all by himself. Needless to say I was ecstatic.
I never formerly sat down to teach Thomas his numbers like I did with his
alphabet. He just picked it up from us counting out loud – usually during his
time outs. Then last night he surprised me again by counting backwards. Again
it was during a time out and his Aunt was counting backwards from ten, and he
would say the number that was coming next.
During his time outs he is supposed to be quiet, and she was wondering
how you’re supposed to get mad at him for that. I told her you don’t.
Even though he has counted to ten without a mistake, he now
always forgets number five. Poor number five. If you correct him he falls back
on track but the next time around sure enough he forgets poor number five
again.
So next week will be our Numbers Week. Each day we will do
different activities for different numbers to put meaning behind the counting.
What is it you do to help your child learn about their numbers?
Happy counting everyone.
